Shinobi RPG Roleplaying Guide

Welcome back, dear reader. Now that you've read through the general rules, this topic will fill you in on all site mechanics. If you hadn't read the general rules, yet, please take a step back and do so first.

What is forum RP?

Forum RP, or forum role playing, is a form of progressive storytelling. Think of each player as a writer who controls the actions of their respective character. Through interaction, the story builds and progresses. Shinobi RPG is a literate text-based roleplay, meaning that you're encouraged to write in a story format- like an author! In order to roleplay here, you must first create a character, then pick a board to write in and fire away.

Writing Rules

Topics must be at least 500 words a piece. This makes it infinitely easier on the staff, who work to approve topic gains as well as check to see if you qualify for additional rewards. If you need to check how many words are in your thread, please copy and paste your text into here. We'd also like to encourage you to write in third person, past tense. In the event of a thread with multiple posts, we'd request that each post be at least 200 words.
Sometimes, during tag threads or missions, a staff member might stick something in your character's way. The way this is determined is through a dice roll. Though the level of difficulty varies depending on your character's rank and overall power, each encounter guarantees something for your character- be it a hostile encounter you can claim items off of to hidden money in a difficult location. If you would not like this to occur, simply state so at the beginning of the topic.

Character Creation

Now that you're probably itching to create a character, let's jump into character creation. Each player must have one account per character. Once your first character reaches C rank/chuunin, you may create a second character. Through this method, three characters may be created. To create a character, please fill out the template in Character Creation and post a new topic named after the character with the template inside. Remember that Shinobi RPG takes place in a universe 200 years after the events of Naruto, in a world where Kaguya was victorious- this means that canon villages don't exist, unless they are created by player characters. Additionally, each character starts at E rank, or as an academy student. You have the option of starting with one clan, as well as one basic element and 500 ryo.

Topic Types and Rewards

There are two types of topics: training and missions. Mission topics involve the process of completing the word requirements and additional goals of a registered mission- which can be found under 'Mission Boards'. During mission, jutsu may be trained at the rate of 500 words per stat. Upon the successful conclusion of a mission, items (such as money) may be rewarded depending on the mission difficulty. Training topics encompass the rest of Shinobi RPG- they can be character development, the act of your character training, or whatever story you decide to concoct. You can be in two topics at a time in the same board. In training topics, stats are trained at 250 words per stat. If you would like to learn a jutsu from another player who already knows it, word count requirements are split in half.

Character Logs

Character Logs are the method by which we keep track of a character's power. Once your character is approved, create a topic for them under 'Character Logs'. There is a pinned topic which holds a template for character logs, though you don't have to follow it- as long as the topic contains all the required information, feel free to decorate it however you please. Once topics are approved, link them in a new post inside of the Character Log so that a character's gains are easier to keep track of. Please remember to keep a link to your character's log and stats inside of your signature for ease of access.

Character Stats

Stats are an overall members of a characters power. For every 250 words written, you are rewarded with one stat point to allocate freely. Once distributed, points cannot be moved. Overall stats cap naturally at 300, though individual stats cap at 120. This number can be increased through items, bloodlines, or jutsu. Items and bloodlines cap at a 20 point increase maximum, but jutsu are only limited by rank. All stats cap at 200, regardless of how many boosters your character has.

There are four primary stats. Please read below for a description of each one.
Chakra: A measure of your character's capacity to cast jutsu, as well as their overall power. Currently, 15 points of chakra are required per jutsu rank, starting at 0- I.E., 0 points are required for E rank, 15 points are required for D rank, 30 for C rank, and so on. S ranks require 90 chakra.
Speed: A measure of your character's agility and how fast they can react to events. The higher this number, the faster your character.
Stamina: The endurance of your character. Each technique costs stamina points. Once your stamina reaches 0, you pass out for the duration of the topic.
Strength: How physically strong your character is. Each point represents 10 pounds in respect to lifting.

Combat

Combat is a fight between characters. During combat, please keep a measure of your character's current stamina at the bottom of your post. Overall damage of techniques are determined by their power. Please read the table below for reference.

1-10 power: Light bruising and scrapes.
11-20 power: Bruises and cuts.
21-30 power: Fractures and gashes.
31-40 power: Broken bones.
41-50 power: Shattered bones.
51-60 power: Body parts blown away.
61-80 power: Body parts disintegrated.
81-100 power: Small-scale destruction.
101-120 power: Medium-scale destruction.
121-200 power: Large-scale destruction.

Character Death and Replacement

Occasionally, during combat, a character might die. If your character dies through combat or reaping, your next character may start at the rank they died at. This caps at B-rank/Jounin. If your character dies in an activity check, this does not apply.

Rank System

On Shinobi RPG, rank determines several primary things: how many jutsu you can learn, how many stats you start out with, and how many specialties you can have. Below is a comprehensive list of the stats and jutsu limitations of each rank.

E-Rank:
-20 stats
-Unlimited E rank jutsu, none of other ranks
D-Rank:
-50 stats
-Unlimited E and D ranks, 4 of each other rank excluding S
-1 Specialty
C-Rank:
-90 stats
-Unlimited E-C ranks, 8 of each other rank, 1 S
-1 Specialty
B-Rank:
-140 stats
-Unlimited E-B ranks, 12 of each other rank, 3 S, 3 Custom
-2 Specialties
A-Rank:
-200 stats
-Unlimited E-B ranks, 15 of each other rank, 5 S, 6 Custom
-2 Specialties
S-Rank:
-270 stats
-Unlimited E-B ranks, 20 of each other rank, 8 S, 10 Custom
-3 Specialties

In order to advance to higher ranks, certain missions must be attempted. These missions vary by village.

Specialties

Specialties mark the capabilities of a ninja in certain areas. Without a specialty, it is impossible to learn techniques belonging to said specialty higher than C rank. It is possible to have a maximum of three specialties on Shinobi RPG. The available specialties will be listed below.

Fuuinjutsu: Fuuinjutsu is the art of sealing objects away with chakra.
Genjutsu: Genjutsu is the art of using one's chakra to manipulate the foe's chakra. Genjutsu can be broken through the Genjutsu Release technique, as well as having chakra at least half of the technique's power. This specialty is highly monitored for abuse.
Medicine: The Medicine specialty involves using chakra to manipulate the human body, be it to heal yourself or bring harm to an opponent.
Ninjutsu: Ninjutsu techniques are created from the user's chakra and usually involve the manipulation of elements.
Puppetry: Puppetry is the art of using chakra threads to control puppets offensively on the battlefield. Each puppet must be registered as a weapon.
Taijutsu: Taijutsu uses the human body itself as a weapon on the battlefield. Unlike most other specialties, Taijutsu requires high strength as opposed to chakra.
Weaponry: Weaponry, much like taijutsu, requires high strength as opposed to chakra. Unlike taijutsu, however, it is the art of using weapons and armor effectively on the battlefield.

Elements

There are five primary elements on Shinobi RPG: Earth, Fire, Lightning, Water, and Wind. Each character may start with one element and learn a second for 2,000 words. Advanced/clan elements are usually the combination of two given elements, though sometimes they are the advanced application of one. Bijuu elements, or elements granted by being a jinchuuriki, do not count towards this amount. At maximum, a character may have two basic elements, one advanced element, and one bijuu element.

Bijuu

There are nine bijuu on Shinobi RPG, and they can only be obtained through site events or special missions created by the staff. Having a bijuu sealed inside a character offers that character certain benefits, if they are willing to train and befriend the beast.

In order to activate the first tailed cloak, you must train with the beast for 1250 words times the number of tails it has. During the first tailed cloak, the user gains +5 times tail number to each stat. This costs 3 stamina points per post. During this form, the user gains a red 'aura' surrounding them, as well as a number of tails behind them which correspond to the number of tails the bijuu has. Tails are 10 meters long, have speed equal to half the user's speed and strength equal to the user's chakra. Upon completion of the required words, the user gains the respective bijuu element for free. Bijuu elements can be found in the bijuu element subforum.

To activate the second tailed cloak, 2000 words are required times the number of tails it has. During this form, the user gains +10 times the number of tails it has to each stat. This costs 5 stamina per post. During this form, the user takes on the form of a miniature version of the beast equivalent in size and weight to the user's original state. Tails manifested are 15 meters long, have speed equal to the user's speed, and strength equal to the user's chakra. Until the completion of the required words, every time the user enters this mode, they are driven into a 'beserk' state and attack anyone nearby.

To activate the full beast cloak, the user must have mastered both previous forms and spend 5000 additional words socializing with their beast in an attempt to befriend it. This state is signified by a dense golden veil around the user. This costs 8 stamina per post, and gives +15 times the number of tails to each stat.
